Executive member of the WOAC Rachel Qin attends the “Global Solutions Summit 2021”
More than 6,000 participants from more than 160 countries and regions attended the event. Representatives from international organizations, governmental and non-governmental institutions and business circles delivered keynote reports on the social, economic and ecological challenges and the G20 agenda in the post-epidemic period.

The “Global Solutions Summit 2021” was held online in Berlin, Germany on May 27-28, 2021.

More than 6,000 participants from more than 160 countries and regions attended the event. Representatives from international organizations, governmental and non-governmental institutions and business circles delivered keynote reports on the social, economic and ecological challenges and the G20 agenda in the post-epidemic period.

As introduced by Dennis Snower, president of Global Solutions Initiative, the theme of this summit was “Resilient Recovery for People and Planet”  –aiming for economic prosperity compatible with environmental sustainability, social solidarity, and personal motivation. Traditional G20 issues were the subject of focus and included challenges in various fields ranging from health, economic recovery, climate change, to digital governance.

On the battle against the COVID epidemic, Mr. Snower pointed out that the critical point is that an increasing number begin to realize the importance of returning to multilateralism. Climate change, financial crisis and the pandemic are global issues that require the widest international cooperation.

Dennis Snower and Colm Kelly, PwC’s Global Leader for Purpose, Policy and Corporate Responsibility pleaded in favor of an urgent need for solidarity between policymakers, business leaders and representatives of global society, as the world continues to face the tremendous turmoil of this global pandemic. Communities and economies globally must enhance their ability to withstand and absorb shocks and to recover from them. To this end, many policy areas must be readjusted.

Ms. Rachel Qin, Executive member of the  WOAC, attended the meeting as a special guest and intervened on several relevant topics. The major function of art, Ms. Qin stated, is to awaken consciousness and improve knowledge. Environmental sustainability under social progress needs vision, while only clear understanding of problems permits their solution.

Ecological and environmental strategies can contribute to achieving global environmental governance, COVID-19 prevention and control the global green recovery. The G20 Summit is committed to building consensus and taking practical action to strengthen global governance and build a community of human interests and responsibilities for a shared future.

Italy holds the rotating presidency of the Group of Twenty in 2021. As the National Coordinator and Chair of the T20 network (Think Tanks from G20 countries), Paul Magri, Executive Vice President and Director of the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI), emphasized: “after the epidemic crisis, what we need is to return to the essence and the most basic things, that is, ourselves, the planet we are on, and the social well-being that is more important than GDP. ”

On China’s promotion and implementation of various G20 summit issues, Magri confirmed the pivotal role of China. Concerning climate protection, for instance, China’s new goals and commitments to combat climate change exhibit a positive trend. Moreover, China has a great say in digital power and economic prosperity. Concerted international cooperation is required to resolve several urgent issues following the Covid crisis.

German Federal Minister of Health, Scholz, Minister of Finance, Schulte, Minister of Environment, and others participated in summit discussions on the 27th and 28th. German Chancellor Merkel and Italian Chancellor Draghi also gave respective speeches.
